swine flu

1)what are the symptoms of swine flu?

The symptoms of swine influenza in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal flu and include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing and sore throat. Some people have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea.

2)How is it spread? Through food? Is it airborne?

Influenza viruses can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pigs. Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs, such as in pig barns and livestock exhibits housing pigs at fairs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly person-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

3)What is the current pandemic alert level as indicated by the WHO? Do you think Singapore is at risk?

its phase five now.GENEVA - THE World Health Organisation raised its pandemic alert for swine flu to the second highest level Wednesday, meaning that it believes a global outbreak of the disease is imminent.
WHO Director-General Margaret Chan declared the phase five alert after consulting with flu experts from around the world. She urged governments and companies to step up their activities in preparation for a full outbreak, adding that the world was better prepared than ever before to tackle an epidemic.i think everyone is at risk of contracting the flu.an infected person can pass through the immigration without being detected with swine flu.

4)What are your thoughts and feelings towards this event? Are you afraid? Confident in the government? Worried about your relatives? Ambivalent? Happy that schools may be closed?

i feel that there are more and more deseases everyday.i think we cannot prevent it from happening its how we deal with it.i'm damn scared because it could happen to anyone, why not me?but i'm sure that the singapore govt is responsible and will deal with the matter in a good way.i'm damn scared of my relatives.i'm damn happy if school is closed.
